OCC Student Trustees Ban Pledge Of Allegiance

I was surfing the net tonight and came across this local story on Yahoo News. Apparently some hippie socialist student trustees ovet Orange Coast College find the Pledge of Allegiance offensive or something. Ahhhh to be young and stupid. At least one student trustee is having none of the ban...

"America is the one thing I'm passionate about and I can't let them take that away from me," 18-year-old political science major Christine Zoldos told Reuters.

Good for Ms Zoldos. I'm sure once this news starts getting out, it is going to generate a lot of bad publicity for the school whether they like it or not. We don't ask for much to be a citizen of this great country, but swearing allegiance is one of the requirements. If you don't like this country....don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Quick -- who wrote the Pledge?

Actualy, Allan, you are wrong again. Reciting the Pledge is not a requirement of this country and not a requirement of citizenship.

The original Pledge did not include the worlds "under God" which was added in the 1950s by the Eisenhauer administration under extreem pressure from the Knights of Columbus. In fact, prior to WWII, school chldren reciting the pledge with their right hand over their heart and left hand fulling extended toward the flag with the palms down, known then as the Bellamy salute after it's author, Francis Bellamy (there, I gave away ther answer).

The salute looks like a Nazi salute and was discontinued afterwards. Bellamy and his family fought the altering of the Pledge to include "Under God" because he wanted it to be a simple oath to the flag (we are one of only two nations in the world who pledge an Oath to a piece of cloth.)

Hope you're sitting down Allan, because Mr. Bellamy was a socialist and a minister who preached that Jesus was a socialist and a liberal. Glad to see you defending a socialist.
