There are rumors floating out there that Ron Paul will run as independent. Is it true? If so, would you switch party to support him?. If so, what party would it be?
I wouldn't have to switch parties to vote for him in the general election. Yes I would vote for him if he were to run as an independent because I don't like any of the GOP or Democratic candidates right now.
I like many of the things Ron Paul has to say, but the hard cold fact is that he will not be President of the United States. With that said, Allan should appoint himself OC Chairman of Ron Paul campaign and orgainze a political findraiser for him. If you really believe in him, put $10K together for the guy.
You can join us Phil at the end of September for a huge fundraiser we're having for him at a friends house in Newport Coast with the Congressman.
Ron's campaign is growing exponentially right now on the net as well as his fundraising. Our meetup group for him is over 150 people. He seems to be the only GOP candidate right now to attact new voters i.e young people to his campaign.
And yes to answer your question Phil I have taken a leading role lately in the OC campaign for him
Going against the beliefs of a large majority of the Republican party
Really Lee? The Republican party is for big government like they've been doing for the last seven years? I never knew that was in the platform. I'm out of step with the majority of our party who favor big government? Who knew. I am against all Republicans who've been giving lip service to smaller government. If you would like to keep supporting that than be my guest. I also don't believe we have in our platform nation building, but Bush and the leadership have been doing that too. They talk a good game, but then do the opposite of what they say. I'm tired of that.
FYI, to an outsider it always appeared that the republicans: "talk a good game, but then do the opposite of what they say." Since I can remember (1969)
I think the GOP party can be saved from itself Stan if it gets more principled statesmen like Ron Paul in office. I prefer to stay in the party and annoy my other fellow Republicans about how bad our party leaders have messed up during the last few years. It still never ceases to amaze me how much cool aid is drunk by the higher ups in the party. Most are still believing Karl Rove that the Iraq War had nothing to do us losing last year. These people are such sheep. Sometimes I feel like I could convince them to buy some beachfront property in Arizona.

Going against the beliefs of a large majority of the Republican party & voting for an independent seems like what a RINO would do.

"I think the GOP party can be saved from itself".... [NO] it can't Allan!
I will tel you why.
It is simple Allan.
The republicans failed the basic principle of the Americanism which makes it the unique politically-social-concept in the world.
THEY MIXED RELIGION AND THE STATE!!!
In order for party to be saved from itself it must drop religious right or silence it including the reborn Christians like Bush.
That will never happen!
That is why Sen. Mcclintock most qualified person to be a Governor of the California will newer be one.
He is to much in the bed with the religious freaks.
Same for Ron Paul.
In the end the religious freaks will embarrass and stigmatize him.
