Cardinal Mahoney "Wags The Dog" On Illegal Immigration Issue

I want to preface this post by saying that I am a lifelong Catholic. I went to Catholic schools my whole life(1st through 12th grade). Lynn and I got married in the Catholic Church. I have received all of the sacraments of the Church except for Last Rites and Holy Orders(becoming a priest). After this post, someone from the Church may wish I was read those rites because I am officially going Chernobyl on Cardinal Mahoney. This guy is wagging the dog on illegal immigration to divert attention from all the pedophile/molestations/rape cases going on in the LA Diocease IMO. I am really pissed off about this if you couldn't tell. This man(and I use that term loosely) has the absolute gall to call for his priests to break the law if the immigration bill currently making its way through Congress passes as it is right now. The man is a criminal already in my book for all the cover ups he has been enabling/abeting for all the diocease's pedophile priests. To this day he still has not released the personnel files of the priests under suspicion/and or already convicted.

Today in his Ash Wednesday sermon, he called for his priests to break the law. I have a question for the Cardinal/enabler...how many illegals does this country have to accept from other countries(read Mexico mainly) until we are in good graces with the Church? He said that it is unfair that families of illegals sometimes wait fifteen years or more before they come here to the US. Here's an idea Cardinal, why don't they go home to where they came from. Then they can be re-united with their family right away and they won't be breaking the law anymore. He also broke out this beauty...
At this particular moment in our history, there seems to be these strident voices that are very much anti-immigrant
. No Cardinal, I am anti-illegal immigration. I don't have any problem with legal immigration. This man needs to be defrocked an sent into exile a la Boston's former Cardinal Law. He is an absolute embarassment to the Church. Someone shut him up before more collateral damage is done to the Church.

Wow, thanks anonymous. I'll take that as a compliment. The John & Ken Show on KFI is my favorite talk radio show. We need leaders who aren't afraid to call a spade a spade when they see it.

My friend, Christ would disagree with everything you've said. Think clearly. And remember Martin Luther King Jr., who said famously that it is the duty of every righteous man to disobey an unjust law. You would deny basic human services to someone in need because they happen to be here illegally? You would make it ILLEGAL to offer a bowl of soup to someone who is starving but here illegally. Christ didn't say, "Check someone's papers before offering aid." You're in for a rough afterlife, you appallingly right-wing nut. Perhaps you should feel a little less proud of receiving all of your sacraments (the lowliest, least educated Catholic can accomplish that "feat") and read up a bit on your catechism, instead of linking immigration to abuse of children by priests.

Pick and choose which of the nation's laws to obey, certainly. Pick and choose which of Christ's teachings to obey? Sorry, Pal. Can't follow you there.

Post what response you like. I'll never return to your fascist site. I leave here knowing I'm right.

Amen, Anonymous. And I mean the last Anonymous. Disagree? Listen to this right wing commentator and examine your conscience.

People, so-called religios people obviously don't live by the Usder with Mexico. It is thge wild west, people literally running accross an associates propery within spittin distance of the border patrol. mexican children flooding our public schools. These are the socioeconomially lowest class of people. most do not even command their so called native language. get ready for a quite natural extreme right wing near fasicm to confront a lower standard of living for native born and a general deterioration of civil law in the Southwest. How about show some reaql courage and put effective pressure on the government of Mexico for real change. For example, few ownership of property in Baja which would stimulate fastastic growth and opportunity for all. By the way...go to hell Cardinal Mahoney.

That's great logic anonymous. Just go out selectively break laws you don't like. We live by the rule of law or we have anarchy. In the case of our open borders, we have anarchy right now down there. Ask any Border Patrol Agent or property owner there. They keep coming because they know we are not enforcing the laws.

I to am lifelong catholic, all thru
H.S. in catholic schools..I even spent 1 yr. in a Jusuit seminary I
    thought I wanted to be a Priest,and
would have if I could have married
and had kids like any normal man..
Today I am sad to say that I am ashamed to be part of a church, that
    encourages their priests to break
    the law..IE:Saying the clergy is
above the law..I despise the Muslims..for mixing religion and politics...now my own are doing the
    same thing...Cardinal Mahoney you are
full of baloney...You are one of the richest churhes in the world,so
why don.t L.A. county send you the
bill for all the services that you
    want your flock to have.
When I went to law school they pounded into our heads that the main thing that seperates the USA
from most other countries is our
concept of the rule of law, without
it we become like all the other rotten, corrupt lawless societies
like Mexico...If you and the church
care so much about your flock and
especially the Mexicans then why have you and the Catholic church
let these poor people suffer and live in such utter poverty, while
    these greddy,despicable,FILTHY RICH
,mexicans..vincente fox and his crew live off the fat of their VERY
RICH,country, and the sweat of the poor people who you seem to care
so much about...since mexico is 95%
catholic you could have great power
in mexico, much like the muslim
mulhas have in iran and iraq..
You have probably set the church back a 100 yrs.We never were a loved religion, and you have made it worse.
